Following Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware for $61 billion in November 2023, Broadcom has announced major changes to VMware’s partner program that will affect thousands of resellers and service providers. An email was sent to all partners on 22nd December 2023 advising all existing VMware partner agreements will be terminated with a new invitation-only Broadcom Advantage Partner Program in place from the 5th February 2024. Partners who wish to continue selling VMware products must apply for the new program and wait for Broadcom’s approval, which will be communicated in January 2024. It appears that partners making below $500,000 in annual VMware revenue are in danger of losing their partner status. This could mean small resellers that have been used in the past to purchase/renew VMware in the UK or regions such as the Cayman Islands may no longer be a partner with this shake up. This will cause many end-user customers to use different resellers.
With the changes announced to the products including the change to subscription only licenses, it seems that the process to renew VMware licences could take longer. The SAM Club is proactively reviewing its clients’ SnS expiry dates to ensure the VMware renewal process is started in plenty of time.
