The Broadcom-VMware deal has sparked a lot of speculation and concern among the VMware ecosystem. According to some sources, only a small fraction of the existing VMware partners – around 10-15% – will be invited to join the new Broadcom VMware Reseller program. Moreover, Broadcom has allegedly seized about 2,000 of VMware’s most valuable accounts, blocking access of other resellers.
These developments, along with the recent changes in the licensing model that require all future transactions to be done through the subscription-based vSphere Foundation that combines vSphere and Operations Management, and the possible price hike, may prompt some customers to look for other options.
