At The SAM Club, we’ve always aimed to deliver the best service using cost-effective tools. For Microsoft and VMware, this has worked well, but as you may know, Microsoft’s MAP Toolkit is now outdated, hasn’t been improved for years, and relies on a non-supported SQL Server Express edition.
When it comes to other software, full SAM tools like Snow, Flexera, or License Dashboard are excellent—but they come with a high price tag and questionable ROI. That’s why I’ve been on the lookout for a truly disruptive solution, and I’m excited to share one with you.
Introducing Licenseware.
You may have noticed their name in our background during Teams calls. What I like about Licenseware is that they leverage knowledge from experienced Software Asset Management professionals.
Initially integrated with Lansweeper APIs, Licenseware now offers its own lightweight agent for deployment on end-user devices. We’re introducing this as an enhancement to our service. We will continue to document your software license information in Monday.com, but Licenseware will allow us to provide:
- Detailed usage metrics
- Discovery of undocumented software in use
- Outdated software installations
- Redundant software detection
It also supports compliance with DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act, EU Regulation 2022/2554), which, while not UK law, is critical for UK firms operating in EU financial markets.
What’s more, Licenseware is developing a SaaS module with a European data centre—something I’ve been searching for at an affordable price to help identify those applications in use that IT or Procurement might not be aware of.
