Microsoft recently announced a new 5-year Reservation for Azure HBv2 virtual machines. The HBv2 VM is a second generation HB Series for high performance computing.
See HBv2-series – Azure Virtual Machines | Microsoft Docs for a technical specification.
1 or 3-year Reserved Instances provide estimated savings of between 25% and 50% on the compute costs of the VM compared with pay-as-you-go rates whereas the new 5-year Reserved Instance can provide savings of approximately 67%.
Further information on the announcement can be found here: Announcing extended term reservation for the Azure HBv2 Virtual Machine | Azure updates | Microsoft Azure
The Microsoft Product Terms have been updated regarding the early termination fee for a 5-year Reservation which is 35%, compared to the usual 12%. The remaining pro-rated balance, minus the fee, is refunded to a customer’s purchase.
