The announcements from Microsoft continue to come. The latest is with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint which will be split into Plan 1 and Plan 2.
The new Plan 1 will be available later in 2021 as a standalone licence, and the capabilities will also be added to Microsoft 365 E3/A3 licences. All existing Microsoft 365 E3/A3 customers will be upgraded to Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1. The upcoming price increase for the M365 E3 license is starting to be justified with some of the E5 functionality being moved to the E3 license (see previous blog on Audio Conferencing Licenses)
The table below provides a comparison between the new Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 and 2 capabilities:
The Plan 2 will continue to be part of the full M365 E5 license or purchased as a separate add-on.
