Visual Studio 2012 will go end of life on January 10, 2023. This applies to all Visual Studio 2012 Editions and its associated products, runtimes, and components. This means that from that moment on there will be no more supported versions of this product.
These include:
- Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, Premium, Professional, Express for Web, Express for Windows Desktop, Team Explorer, and Test Professional Editions.
- Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) and Shell (Isolated).
- Visual Studio 2012 version of components including Agents, IntelliTrace Collector, Microsoft Azure Tools, Remote Tools, SDK, SQL Server Data Tools, Team Explorer, Visual C++ Redistributable, Web Tools Extensions.
Microsoft highly recommends that users upgrade to a newer version of Visual Studio as 2012 will no longer receive security updates. You can find more information about the end of support on Microsoft’s blog.
Note: All Visual Studio subscriptions and Visual Studio Professional are licensed on a per-user basis. Each licensed user may install and use the software on any number of devices to design, develop, test, and demonstrate their programs. Visual Studio subscriptions also allow the licensed user to evaluate the software and to simulate customer environments in order to diagnose issues related to your programs. Each additional person who uses the software in this way must also have a license.
If you have active/current Software Assurance cover on your Visual Studio licenses then you are entitled to upgrade to a later release of the same Edition. Otherwise, you will have to purchase a new subscription.
